Spin Ultra Lounge is located in Boca Raton, Florida. It is a restaurant, a lounge, a nightclub, a live performance venue and a casual outdoor happy hour spot.
The client’s design goal for the project was to create a sophisticated and contemporary ultra lounge environment, enhanced through the use of state-of-the-art video, sound and LED lighting technology. It was equally important for the design to allow for the space to transform from day to night for a myriad of occasions.
To meet these goals, the design team created a space subtly Moroccan inspired, with a hexagonal form derived from a vintage pattern carrying through most design elements in the space, including the sculptural lattice that overlays the media wall, floor tiles and the form of the three bars. The classical layout of Spin mimics a colonnade (the columns and raised counter bar) lining a courtyard (the dance floor and stage).
The challenge for the project was to create a three-dimensional media wall that wrapped the perimeter of the space. The media design for Spin includes state-of-the-art pixel mapping across multiple surfaces. The ArKaos Media Servers were used to send signals to projectors that were mounted overhead and front projected on the Mosaic walls. The servers also sent imagery to the LCD monitors that were set into the walls. The creative video content showed the multifaceted surface in a variety of ways. The wall’s inlaid flat screens and immersive projections change based on the time of day: warmly lit from the front for happy hour, backlit sunset tones for dinner, and full-on projections and strobe effects at night. The media wall is bold and colorful and provides the backdrop for the space. Various images and presentations were projected on the walls, and not only set the vibe throughout the ultra lounge, but also made the space come alive.
The lighting incorporates the latest in LED technology and allows for the entire environment to change at the touch of a cue. Whether the space is being used as a warm subtle restaurant, or a heart pounding dance club, the lighting system can accommodate. Color Kinetic LED fixtures were chosen to minimize the amount of maintenance required, which in turn assures that the original design and focus stays intact long after the design team leaves the building.
To handle the challenge of ensuring high sound output with amazing fidelity, Martin Audio W8VDQ was chosen for the main dance floor PA. Lab Gruppen power amplifiers were chosen due to their amazing headroom provided in the C Series contractor amps. The perimeter of Spin used Martins AQ28 and was designed to keep the sound projected mainly on the dance floor, while allowing patrons to converse without losing the feel of being in an ultra lounge. The entire audio system can be played at low volume with amazing clarity and detail. However, when met with the need of a late night dance crowd, Martin Audio and Lab Gruppen are ready to pack a punch.
