Auto Dealership Lighting

Audi Coral Springs, part of the family owned Qvale Automotive Group, opened its doors in 2010. Located in South Florida, their showroom is over 66,000 square feet and is the largest Audi showroom in the world. This family dynasty began in 1947 and now has nine locations nationwide, representing Audi, Land Rover, Jaguar, Honda, Porsche, Bentley, Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Rolls Royce, Mazda, Chevrolet, Lotus and Subaru.

The Problem

High Energy Costs

With the continued rising costs for energy consumption becoming a major factor, it was imperative to find a solution for the auto dealership lighting that would work within budget. Each of the 80 existing fixtures were using 77 Watts of power, including the ballast.

Lamp Failures

Although CDM lamps have an average lifespan of 9,000 hours, when combined with the ballasts, frequent failures were occurring. The results were dark areas and shadows for the auto dealership lighting throughout the showroom.

Soaring Maintenance Costs

The 66,000 square foot showroom boasts ceilings that range between 25 and 30 feet in height. This meant that in order to replace a single light, an outside maintenance person and special equipment was required.

Inadequate Lighting

Having a state-of-the-art showroom, it was important to improve color rendering, increase general auto dealership lighting, provide tighter spot lighting for their vehicles and enhance architectural lighting.

The Solution

Audi Coral Springs worked with LED Source originally regarding the difficulty in replacing failing lighting fixtures in their showroom. Not only was this concern resolved by adding long-lasting LED lighting, but after doing an in-depth energy audit, it revealed that the company would obtain substantial savings in their maintenance expenditures. This, along with the additional energy savings, made the decision to move forward with the retrofit an easy one.

Using cutting-edge LED lighting technology, LED Source developed the eFFINION Track Head specifically for this project. Installation was done in less than 6 hours and therefore, the project was completed in one evening. The existing 80 CDM fixtures were consuming a total of 77 Watts each. The solution was to replace the current fixture one-for-one with the custom designed eFFINION Track Head LED. Each of these fixtures consumes 38 Watts and has an average life span of 64,000 hours. By converting to LEDs, the lighting in the showroom dramatically improved, thus reducing dark areas and shadows. The new auto dealership lighting using LEDs lowered power consumption by 50.7% for each of the 80 fixtures. Also, since each fixture is estimated to last over 10 years before needing any further maintenance, the savings associated are substantial. With the combined reduction on both lighting energy and maintenance costs, Audi could achieve an annual savings of $19,933.
