(Bloomington, Ind.)---As Indiana moves towards a greener way of living, businesses are popping up to cater to the growing marketplace.  Looking to reduce energy usage and encourage sustainable building practices, Bloomington resident Hugh Kremer has launched LED Source® – a company that supplies high quality LED lighting products to the commercial and residential markets– in August. The company has opened up shop at 406 S. Walnut St. in Bloomington. Hugh plans to open up to four additional locations within the next five years in major metro areas such as Indianapolis and Columbus.

“I’m thrilled to bring LED Source® to my community,” says Kremer. “Indiana has made huge strides to go green over the past several years and my goal is to further encourage area businesses and residents to be more environmentally responsible, while offering a valuable resource for green lighting technology.”

Kremer spent 20 years in computer-based and multimedia training, working for major corporations and the military, before transitioning from adult training to youth education. He spent the last four years developing online games and simulations for K-12 classrooms. Over the length of his career, he also held onto his love of music, which fueled his creative side. As a student at Indiana University, Kremer drew crowds to well-known venues like The Vogue in Indianapolis as the lead singer and guitar player for the rock band, Blue Hugh & The Colourtones. With LED Source®, Hugh will merge skills from both his creative and technical backgrounds.

“I literally ‘saw the light’,” says Kremer. “I have a seven-year-old daughter and realized that I need to do my part in creating a healthier, more eco-friendly world for her and future generations. LED lighting is a realistic way for property owners to reduce energy usage and save money without going completely off the grid.”

LED lighting is the most energy-efficient lighting solution currently available. It’s 300 percent more energy-efficient than compact fluorescent lighting and about 1,000 percent more efficient than incandescent bulbs while using up to 90 percent less energy to run. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, rapid adoption of LED lighting in the United States over the next 20 years would reduce electricity demands from lighting by one-third, eliminate 258 million metric tons of carbon emissions, eliminate the construction of 40 power plants and create financial savings that could exceed $200 billion.

LED Source® is targeting three main business sectors, including commercial, residential and architectural.  Potential clients will include but are not limited to hotels, banks, office buildings, retail establishments, restaurants, convenience stores, car dealerships, schools, manufacturing plants and single-family and multi-family homes. Consumers are attracted to LEDs for both their financial and environmental advantages. They are further encouraged by federal tax incentives and local utility rebates – some that cover anywhere between 30 percent and 100 percent of the cost of LED lighting.

“This is an exciting time for all of us,” says Kremer. “We need to start making a real effort to clean up our environment and make progressive steps forward. One of the simplest and cost effective ways to do this is by replacing your light bulbs!”

Founded in 2005 by lighting industry veteran Marcel Fairbairn, LED Source® is a franchised supplier of LED lighting on a national and international scale. LED Source® applications include commercial office space, schools, churches, theaters, art galleries, restaurants and nightclubs, special events, residential and landscape lighting and much more, including the world’s largest cruise ship and the stadium that played host to Super Bowl XLIII. The company launched a franchise program in October 2009 and expects to have a network of 150 franchise offices throughout North America within three years.
