LED Lighting Technology Makes Inroads In Parks

And the athletic fields of Parks and recreation facilities are soon following suit in this new wave of energy-efficient lighting technology, which does double-duty in cost savings and environmental help. The question most lighting experts pose isn't why athletic fields should upgrade to a more energy-efficient system but why not.

LED Source Vice President Gavin Cooper says the company provided 72 state-of-the-art LED fixtures at approximately 200 watts each to illuminate the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa for Super Bowl XLIII in 2009: "This would have taken almost 100,000 watts using standard lighting. By switching to LEDs, it saved maintenance costs and almost 80 percent energy as well."
